Military MeritNewburgh, NY (May 8, 2024) – During Memorial Day weekend, in honor of those who serve(d) in the US Military, come to Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site for these special activities: 

The lecture, From Badge of Military Merit to Purple Heart, will be presented on Saturday, May 25th at 2pm.  General George Washington, while headquartered in Newburgh, created the Badge of Military Merit on August 7th, 1782.

FDR Library and MuseumHyde Park, N.Y. -- The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site and the FDR Presidential Library and Museum will host a series of free, public events over Memorial Day Weekend, from Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27, 2024.

WORLD WAR II ENCAMPMENT & MILITARY DISPLAYS

On Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, the The Duffle Bag of Patterson, New York, will present a weekend of historic military displays and a World War II encampment on the Roosevelt Library's front lawn.

Curator TourStaatsburgh, N.Y.  (4/24/24) — On Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. and Saturday, May 25 at 11 a.m., Staatsburgh’s curator, Dr. Maria Reynolds, will offer a special tour called “A Closer Look: A Curator-Guided Exploration of the Hidden & Hard-to-See.” The tour will showcase all things French, including French styles, objects, furniture, and architecture in the house. Afterglow Considers How Landscapes Provide Reflection and Healing

Hudson, NY – The Olana Partnership announced today that this season’s special exhibition Afterglow: Frederic Church and the Landscape of Memory will open May 12 in the Sharp Family Gallery at Olana State Historic Site. Afterglow brings together for the first time a series of intimate memorial landscapes painted by Church, 19th-century America’s foremost landscape painter, and highly personal family artifacts – never before exhibited -- from Olana’s collections.

Yet, when his great-granddaughter, Ruth Livingston Mills, lived at Staatsburgh at the turn of the 20th century, the staff was exclusively White and of European descent. Staatsburgh State Historic Site is offering a free, one-hour program, “Slavery, Segregation & Staatsburgh” in-person on Saturday, April 6 at 2 p.m. and via Zoom on Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m. The program is free, but reservations are required

This April, to mark the 112th anniversary of the Titanic’s infamous maiden voyage, Staatsburgh State Historic Site is offering their ever-popular “Tales of the Titanic” theme tour of the mansion.

“Tales of the Titanic” is as close as you can come to visiting the Titanic … and still keeping your feet dry! This 90-minute tour, led by a costumed guide, explores the mansion while offering tales of bravery and tragedy.

Staatsburg, N.Y. (2/10/24) — Stephen. Belinda. Mary. William. Dinah. Those are the known names of the nine people New York State governor Morgan Lewis enslaved at his country estate, Staatsburgh. What do we know of their lives in the Hudson Valley and the legacy of slavery within New York today?

Staatsburgh State Historic Site is offering their free, one-hour program “Slavery, Segregation & Staatsburgh” on Saturdays, March 2 and 16 at 2:00 p.m. Staatsburgh’s founder, Morgan Lewis, enslaved people of African descent at Staatsburgh. Yet, when his great-granddaughter, Ruth Livingston Mills, lived at Staatsburgh at the turn of the 20th century, the staff was exclusively White and of European descent. At the same time, a free Black community was able to grow and thrive in the surrounding hamlet.
