The Hills on Fire Enduro XCBath, NY — On Sunday, August 8th, Mossy Bank Park will host the 2nd annual The Hills on Fire Enduro XC which is a new kind of mountain bike race. The course is located in a young Hemlock stand with easy access for spectators and family and friends to watch. The course will be about 7-8 miles in length with a good mix of single and double track. There will be a 6 hour window to complete 4 laps of the course (solo riders will need to complete all four laps, while riders for two-person teams will need to do two laps each). The event is a fundraiser for the park. A Chicken BBQ will also be available as an additional fundraiser for the park. Award-winning Steuben Brewing Company will be on hand for craft beer tasting as well.

50th Annual Antique Boat Show & AuctionClayton, N.Y. – The Antique Boat Museum (ABM), North America’s premier freshwater boating museum based in Clayton, New York, will host the longest, continuously running Antique Boat Show for the 57th year Friday, August 6 through Sunday, August 8.

This year’s Show builds on the reimagined show held in 2020 which returned to the modest beginnings of ABM’s early days of parades and displays. ABM is excited to welcome more boats and motors of all makes, models, and age from across the United States back to our docks and campus as we celebrate the boating legacy of the 1000 Islands! …

A Novel Weekend - GCV&MLiterary Weekend, Kids Free Thursdays, and Fiddlers’ Fair in August

Mumford, N.Y. – The summer season is in full swing at Genesee Country Village & Museum, and the month of August offers a full lineup of programs and events, concerts on the Great Meadow, special discounts for families, and more. The Museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and presents daily programming in the Historic Village, opportunities to interact with costumed historic interpreters and see 19th-century trades in action, meet farm animals, enjoy lunch or a craft beer in the Depot Restaurant and Freight House Pub, shop in the Flint Hill Store, and so much more.

The Gaze

Astoria, New York, July 26, 2021 — Barry Jenkins’s extraordinary and acclaimed adaptation of Colson Whitehead's Pulitzer Prize–winning novel The Underground Railroad will be the focus of a gallery installation at Museum of the Moving Image beginning July 30. The installation will be anchored by Jenkins’s film The Gaze, a nearly hour-long assemblage of moving-image portraits of principal and background cast featured throughout the show’s ten episodes, and also includes production and costume design material from the limited series. Installed within the Museum’s core exhibition Behind the ScreenAn Act of Seeing: Barry's Jenkins's The Gaze will be on view through October 31, 2021.

Alive on 25Riverhead, NYThe Downtown Riverhead Business Improvement District [BID] brought back its largest event,  Alive on 25 [AO25] Thursday, July 15 2021 with the highest turnout in its history; nearly 20,000 people enjoyed the festival, car show and fireworks. For three remaining dates, Alive on 25 will introduce a ‘Kids Zone’ plus Outdoor Family Movie Nights and Reflextions: Art in the Park neon light exhibit inside Grangebel Park.

Point Au Roche cemetery photoPlattsburgh, N.Y. -- The Clinton County Historical Association is pleased to sponsor a tour of two cemeteries on August 14th in recognition of the Town of Beekmantown Bicentennial Plus One Commemoration.

The tours will be hosted by Carl Gonya and will begin at 9:30 am at the Point Au Roche Cemetery in Beekmantown and conclude at the Ingraham Cemetery in Chazy.

Badge of Military MeritNewburgh, NY (July 28, 2021) -- On August 7th and 8th, in honor of the creation of the Badge of Military Merit, Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site is offering a take home craft kit to make your own Badge of Military Merit. General George Washington, while headquartered in Newburgh, created the Badge of Military Merit on August 7th, 1782. The Badge, the first award of its kind to honor enlisted personnel, evolved into the Purple Heart, an award given today to military personnel, officers and enlisted, wounded or killed in the defense of our country.

ADA Enhanced at Washington HeadquartersState Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Erik Kulleseid announced today that pathway, accessibility and parking improvements are completed at Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site in Newburgh, Orange County.

"This project makes the grounds of the nation's first publicly-owned historic site more open and accessible to all under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) to experience a beautiful and historic setting in the Hudson Valley where General Washington made critical decisions that helped shape the new United States," said Kulleseid."The headquarters has been state property since 1850, so we are the latest in a line of stewards to preserve this for the coming generations. We are committed to ensuring this inspiring place is welcoming and inclusive to all who visit from America and around the world." …

Alnoba, Shape of Enchantment – an example of a Stickwork sculptureTupper Lake, N.Y. – The Wild Center is welcoming stick sculpture artist Patrick Dougherty to its campus this August. Over the course of three weeks, Dougherty will bend, weave, snag and flex locally sourced saplings to create a larger-than-life sculpture inspired by The Wild Center, located near Wild Walk. The twisted creation will be completed and opened to the public by Aug. 21, when guests can immerse themselves in the art, walking through the elaborate sculpture.

Cooperstown Summer Music FestivalCooperstown, N.Y. -- The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival will open its 23rd season with a free outdoor community concert featuring the Caroga Arts Ensemble, led by cellist Kyle Price, at the Fenimore Art Museum Lawn on Tuesday, August 10 at 7pm.

The concert, entitled CSMF Musical Kaleidoscope and sponsored by NBT Bank, will feature an eclectic program of repertoire ranging from bluegrass and classical to jazz and pop in a musical variety show that is intended as a gift to the Cooperstown community.
