Genesee Country Village Museum GCVMA Literary Weekend, Kids Free Days, Making Music, and more in August

Mumford, NY (July 28, 2022) – The summer season is in full swing at Genesee Country Village & Museum, and the month of August is packed with programs and events for the whole family. The Museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and presents daily programming in the Historic Village, opportunities to interact with costumed interpreters and see 19th-century trades in action, meet farm animals, enjoy lunch or a craft beer in the Depot Restaurant and Freight House Pub, shop in the Flint Hill Store, and so much more.

Ticonderoga, N.Y. – Fort Ticonderoga invites you to experience the sights and sounds of the American Army at Ticonderoga during the Sound of 1776 Living History Event August 6-7. From historic trades and weapons demonstrations to living history vignettes and music performances, discover how the beats of drums and the sounds of fifes translated orders to nearly 10,000 soldiers that lived and fought for liberty at Ticonderoga.

Farmingdale, NY (July 25, 2022) – On Saturday, August 13, 2022, the American Airpower Museum and Honor Flight Long Island will host a reunion of 37 Vietnam era veterans and one WWII veteran.  On June 4, 2022, Honor Flight escorted this group of veterans on an early-morning free flight to Washington, D.C.  Veterans and their guardians visited WWII and Vietnam Memorials, plus Arlington National Cemetery for a Changing of the Guard.  They returned to Islip later that evening for a rousing welcome by the Eastern Long Island Police Pipes and Drums Band, plus thunderous applause from hundreds of family and supporters!…

Lake George, NY — In the 32 years it took to bring “Nearby Faraway” to the stage, Neal Herr and Catherine Reid had a family, raised their children, divorced and developed a friendship that brought them back to the project. The premier performance of the original musical will headline O’Keeffe Festival 2022, a celebration of iconic American artist Georgia O’Keeffe on the beautiful shores of Lake George, where she vacationed.

UGRR COVERCayuga County, NY – The Cayuga County Office of Tourism has introduced a new app: “Tubman’s UGRR-Cayuga County”. Auburn and Cayuga County have deep ties to the Underground Railroad. Research has indicated that there are over 100 documented connections in Cayuga County to the UGRR.
