Theaters of New York

Theater Across New York!

... is BIG, Bold and Bountiful!

From the famous Broadway stages to off-off-Broadway lights illuminating community theater marquees, New York celebrates the performing arts. All across this BIG state, curtains are always up!

Upstate, several beautifully restored movies houses – like the Strand Theatre of Old Forge, Watkins Glen Theater and Ohmann Theater –built back in the days of the ‘talkies,’ now showing first-run movies. The Capitol-Saratoga region is blessed with several fine venues, such as Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, The Palace Theater, Proctor’s Theatre and intimate jazz venues such as Bistro/Bar at 74 State.

Further upstate, Stanley Center for the Arts presents A Chorus Line, The Chieftans, and Elvis Lives and Anderson Center for the Arts features performers from Scotland, Brazil and China. You can also take in a show at Cidermill Playhouse - an operating cider mill!

SUNY Fredonia Madrigal Feaste brings back the 15th century with BIG merriment, dance, food and music, and St. Bonaventure University has The Singing Boys of Pennsylvania and Texas-based percussionists, Line Upon Line.

Near the BIG falls (Niagara), Alleyway Theatre celebrates their 30th season  and Lancaster Opera House (which opened in 1897) offers holiday shows and more for the whole family. Blue Man Group and Priscilla Queen of the Desert take Buffalo’s Shea Theater by storm.

In the Hudson Valley and Catskills, the gorgeous Bardavon 1869 Opera House highlights 20th century composers, and presents A John Waters Christmas.  Bethel Woods Center for the Arts has a BIG line-up, as does The Bearsville Theater

On Long Island, choose among Dix Hills Performing Arts Center, Guild Hall, The Staller Center, and The Paramount while in New York City the stars always shine.  In addition to Broadway, check listings for Lehman Center for the Performing Arts; Brooklyn Academy of Music; original musicals by kids at TADA! Youth Theater; Flushing Town Hall; and, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to NYC.

Reserve your seats – the curtain’s rising!

You CAN do it all this winter - in New York State!
