Brooklyn Children’s Museum was the first museum created ‘just for kids.’ Today, 27,000 objects from around the globe fascinate kids!
The Bronx Botanical Gardens has so many delightful and intriguing collections and events! Visit Tropical Paradise (through February 24), Manolo Valdes Monumental Sculpture (Garden Grounds, through May 26), Magnificent Trees of The New York Botanical Garden (through April 14) and The Orchid Show (March 2-April 21), or take your 8-10 year olds to Winter Break Science Camp (February 18-22). And, every Saturday, there’s Bird Walk with an expert.
Historic Richmond Town has Saturday evening Tavern Concerts, English Country Dancing classes (Wednesday evenings), weeknight Reading and Book Clubs for Adults and Children, and more.
Tour Rockefeller Center and NBC Studios: NBC Pages take you behind the scenes to see props, costumes, cue cards and more! Only 150 ice skaters can be on the ‘intimate’ Rink at Rockefeller Center and there are ice skating rinks in all five boroughs; hiking trails, too.

Flushing Town Hall’s annual favorite, “Lunar New Year Dance Sampler,” returns (February 10) with a spectacular presentation of international dance performances. And, there’s more: pianist Frederic Chiu (February 16); storyteller David Gonzalez (March 10); “Lunar New Year Printmaking” (February 24, March 3) and “Lunar Lantern Making” (March 3) workshops; and an introduction to theatre for children ages 0-6, “Hatched! Tree House Shakers” (March 24).
A film festival just for kids (ages 3-18), what a great idea! The New York International Children’s Film Festival (March 1-23) presents 100 animated, live action and experimental shorts and global features plus much more. Go “Behind The Screen” at Museum of the Moving Image: see 1,400+ artifacts, from Yoda from Star Wars to interactive fun with sound effects, even star in your own flipbook.
The “2012 Emerging Artist Fellowship Exhibition” (through March 31) is at Socrates Sculpture Park, a spectacular setting to present public art.
At The Queens Farm Museum’s annual Barnyard Easter Egg Hunt (March 30), “Whiskers” the bunny is ready for photo-ops!
