Lake Erie Wine Country is a perfect go-to destination for guests and relatives! Did someone say Wine & Chocolate Weekend (February 15-17)? How romantic! And, what else pairs well with wine? NYS Cheddar cheese, of course! Visit the Cuba Cheese Shop – and check their site for the February date of its 6th Annual Macaroni & Cheese Contest.

Visit the Roger Tory Peterson Institute for exciting events, distinguished speakers, world-class natural history exhibitions, and take a close look at Peterson’s famous artwork. And, while you’re in town, visit the Lucille Ball Theatre for “Guys on Ice,” a musical comedy (February 1-3) or the drama, “Desperate Hours,” (March 8-10 and 15-17). You won’t want to miss The Lucy Desi Center For Comedy where The Lucy Desi Museum and The Desilu Studios contain I Love Lucy sets and The Tropicana Room where Ricky Ricardo captivated audiences!

SUNY Fredonia offers many student and faculty shows, as well as concerts and special events such as “WNYCO: Celebrating Three Generations of American Music” (February 10); “Wales: Land of Song with Monte Brown” (February 16); “Pirate School” (March 1); “Gone Viral: Medical Science and Contemporary Textile Art” (March 8-April 7); and “Stop The World I Want to Get Off (March 8-16).”

On March 3, Line Upon Line, a Texas-based trio of percussionists, takes the stage at St. Bonaventure University.

The 2013 Psychic Fair Weekend in Salamanca (March 2-3) may give answers, satisfy curiosity or just be fun – and there’s shopping for jewelry, gemstones and precious stones! Did you know that the largest Center for the Science, Philosophy and Religion of Spiritualism is the 133-year old Lily Dale Assembly? Registered mediums are available year-round, in a peaceful setting near Cassadaga Lake.

And, while you’re in the area, check out these choices: Seneca-Iroquois National Museum (exhibits, gift shop), Salamanca Rail Museum and Seneca Allegany Casino. Events at the Casino include “The Fab Four – The Ultimate Beatles (February 10), “Amsoil Championship Snocross Series (February 22-24) and classic rock superstars, Kansas, on March 24. 

The Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art at Alfred University has nearly 8,000 ceramic and glass objects from ancient civilizations to cutting edge technology. The current exhibition is “New Morphologies: Studio Ceramics and Digital Processes” (February 7-April 5).

“Nunsense” (through February 3) and Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” (March 14-17) will be staged at the Olean Workshop. Wilder’s play is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year!

Who says you have to go to New Orleans to celebrate? Mardi Gras weekend (March 9-10) is packed full of Winter Carnival fun at Holiday Valley Resort. There’s a Snow Ponies Race, Cardboard Box Race, parade, zany costumes and lots of fun!

The 16th Annual Maple Weekends (March 16-17 & March 23-24) are presented by the NYS Producers Association in Lakewood and Forestville. Statewide, 110 maple producers host open houses and demos – now, that’s BIG and sweet!
