This winter, Palace Theatre shows include “Sesame Street Live: Elmo’s Super Heroes’” (February 1-3), The Annual Black History Month Step Show (February 8), Experience THE BEATLES with RAIN (March 18) and a free school time performance of the inspiring play, “A Thousand Cranes (March 26) plus classic movie events The Wiz (February 4) and The Princess Bride (February 25), and more!
Proctor’s Theatre presents Motionhouse (February 2), 8th Step – Red Molly (February 16), How I Became a Pirate (March 1), The Intergalactic Nemesis, a live-action graphic novel (March 27-30) and a full schedule of many more events.
The Empire State Aerosciences Museum (ESAM) at Schenectady County Airport offers BIG excitement indoors and out with detailed models, hands-on exhibits, simulated reality vehicles and cool kids programs, like rocket building.
Check out the Tubing Park and Terrain Park and FUN RUN RACES at Willard Mountain, plus their special event dates: The Acrobag RETURNS (February 15-17) and Presidents’ Week (February 18-22). Pine Ridge Cross Country Ski Center, Grafton Lakes State Park, Schodack Island State Park, Dyken Pond and Cherry Plain State Park have cross-country ski trails (plus some snowshoeing too), and Maple Ski Ridge features after school and weekend lessons for skiing and snowboarding. Cross-country skiers at Saratoga National Historical Park learn about history too as they shush over the turning point of The Revolutionary War! Saratoga Springs Ice Rink and Saratoga Spa State Park have outdoor skating, and don’t forget Saratoga’s great sledding hills – just bring your own saucers and tubes!
For more cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and downhill skiing adventures, try Lapland Lake Nordic Vacation Center, Rockwood State Forest and Royal Mountain Ski Center. The 2013 Great Sacandaga Lake Snowmobile Fun Runs (February-March) benefit local charities and the Great Sacandaga is THE place to go all season long for ice fishing contests (March 8-10) and guides.
Saratoga Springs’ popular annual Winterfest (February 1-3) has a Wine Tasting, Chowderfest (February 2), live music entertainment and much more!
The Henry Hudson Planetarium is an official NASA Space Place, and hosts educational and special events programs, including Children’s Astronomy Show and Albany Star Sighting (every third Saturday) and School Break Fun featuring Circus of Stars (February 19) and Follow The North Star (February 21).
The annual Winter Raptor Fest (March 23-24) is all about exciting displays of aerial agility! Educational and fun, it’s a great way to learn about hawks, owls and falcons, while enjoying horse-drawn sleigh rides, snowshoe walks, vendors and more.
