Winter and skiing in New York - a perfect match! When the terrain turns white, New York State waxes up for another great season of skiing with 50 downhill mountains.
With some of the most affordable skiing in the Northeast and learning centers for beginning and novice skiers, there is a ski area for you just a short drive away in New York. And, combined with a host of other attractions and seasonal activities, New York State, which is ranked fourth in national skier visits, is the perfect winter playground. The Ski Areas of New York association has special promos throughout the winter too!
Some enhancements have been made to ski areas: Holiday Valley opened the new $12 million Holiday Valley Lodge which will serve as the main base’s day lodge, with dining, entertainment, a daycare center, and ski and snowboard rentals and repairs along with snowmaking equipment. New snowmaking piping at Whiteface means skiers and riders won’t have to rely on Mother Nature to provide enough snow to cover the Mountain’s expert 4,700 foot-long Hoyt’s High Trail.
Over the past year, Gore Mountain has added 160 new high-efficiency tower snow guns and 30 shorter snow guns for better coverage of expert, family and core terrains, as well as new grooming equipment to maintain the tubing lanes. Nearby, Hunter Mountain continues to upgrade its snowmaking and grooming capabilities too.
