Greater Niagara

Great foods and festivals this fall in Niagara.

Niagara Wine Trail activities abound in autumn. Fine foods and wines never went better together than during Harvest Fest, September 7-9. Each trail winery will offer a signature wine with food pairings like flavored pizzelles, grilled zuchini and goat cheese, harvest breads or fine chocolates. Surprises await you at every stop.

Peaches get their due at the 55th Niagara County Peach Festival, September 7-9. This Kiwanis Club event is pure Americana, complete with a parade, fair foods, peach shortcake, carnival rides and three days of stage entertainment.

If it weren’t for Johnny Appleseed there might not be any orchards, so celebrate the legend at Becker Farms’ Johnny Appleseed Festival, September 8-9. Pick your own apples and shop the farm market, stop by the winery and brewery, enjoy chicken BBQ and music, hayrides and more.

If you prefer fine hops, downtown Medina’s 4th annual Ale in Autumn beer tasting event, September 29, should keep you quenched with many of the region’s favorite brews.

Every weekend is a special event at the Great Pumpkin Farm during Fall Festival Days, September 22nd to Halloween, where wholesome food and fun abound. Drop by the General Store for handmade crafts and Halloween decorations. Taste freshly baked fruit pies, cider and apples, and fill your pockets at the old fashioned candy store.

Ten local wineries and over 50 craft breweries go head to head at the 5th Annual Oktober Brewfest, September 29 at Batavia Downs Casino. Sample suds galore and the region’s finest wines.

Kids love farms, and Watt Farms Country Market keeps them coming back with tours and workshops on cider making, apple picking and fruit growing. Press your own cider and ride the Watt's Orchard Express around this 100-acre orchard, weekends through October. School groups welcome.

The Niagara Culinary Trail is all about local foods, local dishes and farm-to-table events; five regions full. Pick a region, pick a day and bring your fork to discover fragrant country orchards and farmers’ markets, inventive chefs, quaint rural dining and the pure joy of eating in the Niagara region.

Climb aboard the Spring Lake Winery Vineyard Express for a half-day excursion in vintage 1947 coaches through the placid Niagara County countryside. Enjoy a fine wine and live music at this Tuscan-style stone winery, a tour of the Medina Railroad Museum, and a catered lunch by the lake. The Vineyard Express runs through October 27.
