Chautauqua-Allegheny

Paddle, row or cruise the southern tier’s gentle waters.

Bring along your boat to the Ischua Valley Falling Leaves Regatta weekend, September 7-9. Camp over on Friday for the Regatta Party. Any form of motorless boat is invited to participate in Saturday’s Regatta, with both long and shorter routes on Ischua Creek, followed by a live band and partying. A big Sunday breakfast tops off the event.

A favorite sport on Chautauqua Lake, the fall rowing season is just getting underway. The Chautauqua Lake Rowing Association welcomes you to sample one of the world’s best ways to relax and stay fit with two levels of learn-to-row classes for teens and adults that are safe, fun, and open the doors to the lake’s many rowing events.

More experienced paddlers can test their endurance as they paddle the length of Chautauqua Lake during the Summer's End-to-End Challenge, September 23. This challenging 17-mile all day paddle begins at Lucille Ball Memorial Park, and a prior summerful of paddling is strongly suggested.

Let Adventure Calls Outfitters introduce you to remote Zoar Valley on their September 16 Taste of the Finger Lakes Canoe Trip, a serene afternoon of paddling in Hemlock Lake while sampling New York’s finest wines and cheeses. For a manlier outing there’s Just Us Guys Overnight, October 6-7, when guys get to camp at Letchworth State Park, run the river, eat manly meals and bond.

Climb a spiral staircase to some goosebumps in an Investigative Ghost Hunt at Dunkirk Lighthouse. Several are planned through October 27 that include an escorted tour of this historic operational lighthouse and museum, and a real paranormal investigation. Might you encounter a genuine haunting?

Enjoy a pampered Fall Foliage Cruise aboard the steam powered stern-wheeler Chautauqua Belle and breathe in the panoramic fall colors that make Chautauqua County famous while sipping cocktails, enjoying lunch or a romantic dinner. Narrated cruises are planned weekends through October and no reservations are needed.

Who says water has to be wet? Warm up a chilly autumn evening with ice skating at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena. Public skating is inexpensive and includes skate rental, and drop-in hockey is also popular with kids and adults.
