Seaway Trail - American Scenic Byway

Enjoy a leisurely ride in your car, on bike, by RV, boat or Motorcoach when you travel the 454-mile coastal region to discover great American road trips on the Seaway Trail. Paralleling Lake Erie, the Niagara River, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, the Trail connects in diverse and fascinating ways to America’s history.  Once a footpath and wagon trail, the multicultural influences of Native Americans, French explorers, British soldiers, Dutch settlers, Underground Railroad travelers/conductors and America’s pioneers remain today in the architecture, arts, festivals, and foods along the Great Lakes Seaway Trail.

A well-marked, scenic alternative to interstate highways and toll roads, you are led to eye-opening treasures you might otherwise have overlooked. Traveling the Trail takes you to sophisticated cities, quaint villages, laid-back fishing ports, dozens of family attractions, restaurants, accommodations and shops.

You will see brilliant gold and crimson splashed across the northern hardwood forest of New York’s St. Lawrence River region, red apples dotting Lake Ontario orchards, and pumpkin-filled fields and farm markets from Massena to Lake Erie.   Follow the byway to the vineyards of the Chautauqua-Lake Erie Wine Trail, the Lake Ontario Wine Trail and upstart Seaway Wine Trail. The fall camping and fly fishing are fabulous - try the Salmon River and Oak Orchard Creek. A 22-mile map available at Partyka Farms Market in Kendall takes you to the Carpenter’s Wheel, Joseph’s Coat, Circle the Field and other quilt patterns painted on barns.

Fall drives along the Seaway Trail – what a splendid idea!
